Topic: the plight of the weak through the term of domination in ‘David Copperfield’ – Charles Dickens.

Coming soon meanwhile enjoy the introduction below.

Introduction: The author and the autobiography novel, David Copperfield.

Charles Dickens (1812-70) was born in Portsmouth, Dickens moved to Chatham. His father, a clerk in the Navy pay office, was imprisoned for debt in Marshalsea prison. Charles was taken out of school, aged 12, to work in a blacking warehouse, but returned to school, and was a legal office boy at 15, and then a shorthand reporter of parliamentary debates for the Morning Chronicle. He married Catherine Hogarth in 1837; they had 10 children. He left his wife in 1858, defying scandal; he maintained a secret friendship with Ellen Terman, an actress. Dickens died worn out by public reading tours.

David Copperfield is a novel of autobiography in which David recalls his past life. David’s story (of his life) is completely central to the novel. The structure is simple and divided into three main parts:

1) His childhood and early youth, starting with his birth in Blunderstone and ending when he completes his time at Doctor Strong’s school in Canterbury. (Chapters 1-18)

2) His later youth and early manhood, starting with him ‘looking about’ for a career and ending with the death of Dora. (Chapters 19-53)

3) His maturity, starting from his mourning for Dora (and Steerforth and Ham) and ending with his marriage to Agnes Wickfield and happy life afterwards. (Chapters 54-64)

David Copperfield is largely based on Charles Dicken’s own plight as a child; it is an autobiography with many of the storylines mirroring Dicken’s own life. Within the limits set to this essay, we shall start by defining the term of domination as well as the author’s views as regards this term, how does he relate it through his writing, to what extent does it help us to explain some traits of the author’s personality, his views on morals, discipline-education, religion, or the society (status &social class, traditions and norms…)

Electronic whiteboard in schools.

Teaching and Learning Through the Use of Electronic Whiteboard: The ideal Classroom setting by Grace A. Obaigbona. Covenant University, Ota. College of Human Development. Department of French. April 2007.

Abstract:

1 ¶ I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to SEE what He will say to me, and what I will answer when I am corrected. (NKJV- New King James Version.).

2 And the Lord gave me an answer, and said, put the vision in writing and make it CLEAR on stones, so that the reader may go quickly. (BBE – Bible in Basic English.).

Habakkuk 2:1-2.

Pictures speak louder than words. People tend to live with and retain more of what they SEE and touch or interact with than what they hear.

The classroom provides an ideal setting in which different modes of communication co-exist. These modes are speech, writing and projected images. Much of the information in a lecture tends to be poorly recorded or lost due to the low attention span of most young people today. My suggestion is that tools to aid in the capture and subsequent access of classroom information will enhance both the learning and teaching experience. Also, this will improve the interactive method that is being promoted in most schools (Teacher-student interaction at 50% each, which suggests a reduction of the importance or role of the traditional methods.)

The purpose of this write up is to apply ubiquitous (i.e. ever-present) computing technology to facilitate automatic capture, integration and access of multimedia information in the educational setting of the university classroom.

The electronic whiteboard could also be referred to as the Liveboard, Smartboard, Interactiveboard, the terms are equivalent and could be used interchangeably in most publications but for the sake of uniformity, I shall restrict myself to or make use of the term – electronic whiteboard.

Introduction: The Electronic whiteboard.

An Electronic Whiteboard is a device that interprets a projected two-dimensional surface that interacts with a computer desktop. Electronic whiteboards typically require a computer to generate the display via a projector. Software mimics the computer’s mouse and keyboard…

TEACH THEM WELL

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior

teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”

- William Arthur Ward, Author, Editor and Pastor

“If you don’t understand people, you can’t help them. If you don’t

love people, you won’t help them.”

- John C. Maxwell

“I believe the children are our future

Teach them well and let them lead the way

Show them all the beauty they possess inside

Give them a sense of pride to make it easier

Let the children’s laughter remind us how we used to be.”
